Olivia Strittmatter - Nolan Trail
Blog Post 3 - experience in a natural setting
This blog post is about my experience during the class we had on the Nolan trail.
On October 27 we had class on the Nolan trail, as we all know. While we were there Dr. Redick pointed out a lot of specific plants and told us about them, and what they were communicating to us.
My favorite part of that class was seeing all of the trees that had grown while they had vines around them and you could now see the indents from where the vines used to be. This was my favorite part because you could really see what had happened to the tree. It was really clear and easy to understand that the tree was communicating what had happened. You could see that the tree(s) had been pretty young when the vine had grown all up and around the tree trunk, and that the vine(s) had been there for so long that the tree had grown around the vine(s).
I thought that it was really cool because we were able to see how the vine had shaped and altered how the tree was growing, and also how we were able to understand that the vine is what had caused that sort of damage to the tree.
