Sarah Goldsmith- Sunday Strolls (Student Choice)
Today as I was walking between my apartment and the library I actually had some super cool interactions with the environment. My first interaction was around 2pm, and I was walking by the holly bushes on the exterior of the Trible Library. On these bushes were two birds. One of them immediately flew off, but the larger of the two stayed, and allowed for me to get close to it. I was shocked, as birds are typically skittish. This bird, perched atop the bushes, allowed for me to stand and admire it. It was a beautiful gray bird with black stripes on its wings. A google search led me to believe that it was a type of Vireo. What was so striking to me is that this bird was confident and dominant. I was more scared of it than it was of me. Eventually, the bird flew off because he got bored of me.
The second environmental interaction I had today was when I was walking back from the Library following my dinner. I don't know what caused me to look up, but as I did, a shooting star passed over my head. This was likely part of the Geminid Meteor shower that was supposed to peak tonight. What surprised me the most was how uneventful it was. There was no lead up or hype around the shooting star, and following the star, I was still by myself walking in the parking lot outside my apartment. It is incredible how nature is so permeating. As humans, we are always trying to dominate nature, but nature always finds a way to seep into our comfortable world.
