Liminality in Pilgrimages
During a pilgrimage the pilgrim is on a journey of discovery. Pilgrims go on these journeys with the goal of finding something new. They endeavor to find meaning in the journey and in the place they are journeying too. While they are taking the pilgrimage they are undergoing a change. The pilgrims go through a liminal phase of their journey as they begin to change and then complete their change as they come out the other side of the liminal phase.
I have never had a moment where I went through a profound enough change to have a noticeable liminal experience. I have had changes in my life and some of them happened surprisingly fast, but I have never had a truly transformative experience. I haven't gone on a pilgrimage or anything similar to it. It would be interesting to see what I would realize or understand after a pilgrimage. I don't really have anything I need to understand or am seeking so I am not sure if I would gain anything from a pilgrimage.
