Religions Driving Effect on People

    Religion is a constant throughout history. For most of the history of the world people have practiced religions. They have changed throughout the years and developed over time. But one thing that has remained constant is the perception of things as sacred and special. The belief in this and the existence of those feelings has driven history and humanity for a very long time.

    Nations have gone to war over religion. Currently wars are being fought in the middle east over sacred land. The middle east is full of sacred locations and Islamic mosques and temples of Judaism. There are constant conflicts between the two groups as they both have unique customs and traditions as well as sharing the same sacred locations. The people of these groups are very passionate and many are willing to die for their beliefs. It is an impressive resolve and dedication to the beliefs and the thing at its center is the belief in the sacred.

Kayla Hammond - Prayer as the Posture of the Decentered Self (Phenomenology Reading 2)

      In the first Chapter of the Phenomenology Of Prayer the author explains how prayers can represent the decentered self. He explains this concept through Mary the mother of God. In the bible it explains how an angel named Gabriel was sent down to tell Mary that she will bear a Son whom is holy. Mary's reply was "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:35-38) In this reply it shows a prayer of decentered self for she recognizes that God is her creator and the highest of power. In addition to this she recognizes that God is the writer of her story. In another example God prayers in a form of decentering self too when he was about to face his death on the cross.
